The U16 boys were asked for “a quick kill” by the coaching staff, and definitely delivered starting the game with 12 unanswered points before the shocked Gold Coast Waves scored their first basket four minutes into the game. The onslaught continued with the home team being up 30 – 7 at quarter time.
The Wizards high rate of scoring continued throughout the game, however lapses throughout the last three quarters defensively, poor boxing out and some bad decisions offensively allowed the Gold Coast to score more than they should’ve.
Having said that, another solid performance overall from the team, with everyone working hard to achieve a good result. Jack and Zeb MacKenzie led the scoring with 37 and 19 points respectively. Again Luke Pittle was the best performer in the opinion of the coaches notching up another triple double with 14 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Mention must be made also of strong games from Jackson Gray (12 pts on 100% shooting, 13 reb and 9 blocks!!) and Dan Clanfield who did a great job defensively with good ball pressure, great denial defence and he chipped in with 8 points of his own.
The team heads to the Christmas break 6 wins in 6 games after their 110 – 59 victory, but are well aware that they still have quite a way to go to be playing to their potential.
