Fundraising BBQ @ Boondall (Saturday 7th of November)

The U16 girls rep team will be running a fundraising bbq at Boondall all day tomorrow. So if you're heading down to the Sports Centre either in the morning or afternoon, bring empty stomachs and cash along and support the girls. Thank you.

Week 1 - Under 20 Women Game Report

The first game of the season was an exciting and beneficial game for the Northside U20 girls. The score was relatively even throughout the first quarter, their defence remained quite strong and considering the players lack of height the team rebounded well. However on offence the girls began to struggle with both fitness and organisation, leaving them 15 points down at half time.

For the second half of the game, the Wizards came out in a full court press, resulting in many turnovers. Northside took time to set up and run through their offence and exploited gaps in Caboolture’s defence. With a quarter to go it was anyone’s game, the girls tried their best and never gave up and with a final score of 66 -65, lost by only one point. After their narrow loss this week the girls will be determined to go out and beat Redlands next week.

Player of the match goes to Emily Purton, who showed outstanding leadership and determination to try and get the girls over the line.

Week 1 - Under 18 (2) Boys Game Report

Matching up against a small but quick Runaway Bay Seahawks, the U/18 boys came out looking to take the first game of the season.

The first half of the game saw the boys beginning to gel as a team, and to start working effectively together on both offence and defence. In the third quarter the boys came out all guns blazing, with brilliant defence and smart offence, using their height advantage to put points on the board.

In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks returned with a determined effort and were unfortunately able to get ahead by four at the end of the game.

Lachlan Christ and Josh Duke both played exceptionally well with outstanding offensive and rebounding efforts.

Week 1 - Under 16 Girls Game Report

The U/16 Northside Wizards girls played Southern Districts Titans in Southern Cup at Boondall and unfortunately lost with the final score being 56 – 38. With a really close scoring game and a high foul count for the Wizards with most players sitting on 4 fouls, the Titans just managed to get the better of us towards the end.

Special mention to Ruby See #10 scoring 12 points, all being three pointers which was the highest individual score count for Northside and also Phoebe Hinds #15 had 9 points.

Hopefully this week’s loss will make the girls more determined to beat Ipswich next weekend.

Week 1 - Under 18 Boys Game Report

The Under 18s boys put up a great fight against a Seahawks side loaded with top age talent, some of whom have played D League in the past.

Straight from the tip the wizards boys were able to get the jump and lead by 8 points midway through the first quarter, but the Seahawks came back strong to close the end of the period.

The following 3 quarters was tight with the Seahawks eventual winners by 8, outside shooting was the theme of the night, with the Seahawks guards unable to miss from 3.

Jamaal lead the Wizards with 31 points, coming off long ball three pointers and drives to the hoop. Cody helped the scoreboard tick over with 13 points and 4 rebounds and Lindsay covered the glass with 9 rebounds and notably 5 blocks!

Overall, a good hit out for the young wizards squad, with a bit of fine tuning on the boards, the group will be close to getting the W next time.

Next match up is the title favourites - Maroochydore at Maroochydore.

Week 1 - Under 16 Boys Game Report

The Wizards Under 16 boys got off to a solid start to the season with a 105 – 59 win over Seahawks GC. The team from Runaway Bay was overwhelmed by early full court pressure from Northside, along with some hot shooting from Jack Mackenzie, who finished the game with 27 points.

With state coach Dave Owens watching from the sidelines, the Wizards continued the onslaught with Luke Pittle (17 points), Jackson Gray (20 points) and Nathan “Machine” Burrows (14 points) being more than their opponents could handle.

All 9 players that suited up for the Wizards contributed at both ends of the floor, laying the foundation for things to come. Next week the boys travel to Maroochydore to tackle the Clippers, who lost in week 1 to Spartans.

Week 1 - Under 14 Boys Game Report

U14 boys premier league had a great game during round one, winning by almost 50 points to Brisbane silver.

The boys all committed to the game showing heart and desire. Bench players came out strong.

Players of the game include Todd Thomas who continually found the open player and Sean Gray who came out who had awesome stats of rebounding, points and blocks. Darnell was on fire, keeping the scoreboard ticking over, to the tune of 35 Points! Well done Boys!

Week 1 - Under 14 Girls (2) Game Report

Congratulations to 14/2 girls on an excellent start the season! We were victorious over Ipswich (3), the score being 54-11. The girls have been working hard at training to increase their fitness and ball-skills. Lets keep up the great work girls :)

Player of the week: Sophie Whitbourne

Week 1 - Under 20 Mens Game Report

U/20 Mens played Caboolture at Cabooluture.

The boys started with a jump out of the blocks and put early pressure on the Suns and were only down by two points at quarter time then five at half time keeping themselves in the game. They played with enthusiasm and tenacity. The boys kept the Suns honest for most of the game staying with them within 5-8 points until the final quarter where fatigue took over and the Suns hit many 3 point shots to get away with a win by about 20 points in the end.

Our boys fought hard to the end and didnt give up.

Hard to pick one player in the team as they all played themselves to a standstill.

Week 1 - Under 12 Girls Game Report

Under 12 girls had a tough first round game against Runaway Bay losing by 1 point.
Although this was not the start we had hoped for the girls are determined to put that behind them and build on their experience and come out stronger next week.

Gema Greasley kept the team within reach with her 25 points for the game.

Week 1 - Under 14 Girls (1) Game Report

The Girls had a comfortable win against Runaway Bay Seahawks 76-22.

The girls were a bit nervous before the game, although excited about the new uniforms, go figure!. An excellent start saw us up 13-0 after 2 minutes, and the Seahawks never recovered from this.

The players seem to be enjoying the structure and the way the workload is being shared amongst the group. For us to be successful we can't rely on one or two players, all must pitch in. The scoring was shared, and the team defence was reasonable.

I am looking for some improvement in this area in the coming weeks though. Highlights were Mel Bateman's unselfishness on the break and "big" Julia Lindner running the lanes. Shook the cob webs out this week, now we need to step up against Maroochydore next Saturday.

Week 1 - Under 12 Boys Game Report

The boys played a solid first game against Caboolture with a good effort displaying lots of team basketball.

Bhavin’s defensive effort was one of the highlights of the game forcing many turnovers.

The basketball homework that the boys have been doing in their own time has certainly paid dividends. Keep up the good work Boys.

Final result was Northside Wizards 46 to Caboolture 28.
