Week 3 - Under 16 Boys Game Report

Saturday at Insports Northside Wizards came up against a young, well drilled Logan Thunder outfit. A fast paced first quarter saw Wizards having to work for every point they got, knocking down a few open looks put them up 10 at the end of the first quarter. The next two quarters proved to be a lot closer with Logan forcing Northside into some bad decisions and turnovers, going into the last break up 17.

The last quarter saw the team ease out to a 93 - 67 victory. The next game for the boys is a top of the table clash against Spartans at Boondall at 4.30pm Saturday 21 November.

Week 3 - Under 14 Girls (1) Game Report

This was the second real big test of the season playing the reigning Premier League Champions and Classic Runners-up in Logan Thunder. After last week's high, downing Maroochydore, we certainly hit rock-bottom on Saturday. Again another very poor start, down 19-2 at quarter time, under the extreme full court pressure from Logan. We did not handle this well, although our very poor shooting percentage did not do us any favours. After quarter time the game was quite even, and in patches we were on top, but poor decision- making and failure to follow our team defensive rules really let us down. Logan's full court pressure caused us to make a number of turnovers and their great shooting finished us off. It was very disappointing to not come out and play to our potential, and I am sure the players are hurting....I hope they are...I am. Players need to adjust their game to the refereeing, whether it is good, bad or indifferent, and I will leave the discussion on this as this is not the forum. The effort certainly opened our eyes, as to what is expected in U14s this season, and we can make the necessary adjustments. A couple of positives were the 100% effort given by Mel Bateman on both ends of the floor, and Maddie Woodford's hustle all game. Also it would be fair to say that we learnt a lot more about them, than they learnt about us, because we didn't give our best performance by a long shot. A committed effort to rebound, play defence, follow team rules and cut down turnovers is required.

Player of the Week: It would be unfair to Logan for me to give a player of the week from our squad, as they clearly outplayed us. Honourable mentions to Mel and Maddie.

Week 3 - Under 20 Mens Game Report

The under 20 Mens team played another close game against Gold Coast on Saturday, winning by one point after the final buzzer with Jordin Teo hitting both free throws from a foul on the buzzer by Gold Coast.

The game was close for the most part until Gold Coast got away on Norhside to a ten point lead and at times more in the final quarter, the boys dug deep and kept coming back at the Coast to draw level and went shot for shot down by one point in the final seconds Jordin Teo drew a foul to the basket and went to the charity line and sunk both free throws to finish the game one point winners.

Nate O'Shea played well hitting 3 point boomers and Luke Stewert was crafty and stealth as ever with his trademark steals and a charge for the team and sneaking in to the basket.

Julio Palaez Flynn Clark Matt Goodall and Rob Coates all took a hammering while in rebounding and gave back as good as they got not taking a backward step.
Zac Sweetman and Dave Wilson Jarryd Smales all were fast to get bak in defence to slow the coast side down to the basket on the fast break.
Geoff Walsh out with injury, was a great support to the team and encouraged from the bench to help get the boys over the line.
Coach Josh Heng must be going grey early with these close games but happy to see the never give up attitude of the team continue every time they play.

Week 3 - Under 12 Boys Game Report

Once again, the boys fantastic defensive effort worked effectively as the team got many fast-break layups, which helped lead the boys to a 72-31 win.

The homework is also beginning to show as the team out-ran the opposition with their superior fitness. Keep up the good work boys.

Special mention this week goes to Harrison for defensive intensity and for taking the crucial rebounds and Jacob for impressive effort on both ends of the floor.

This week sees our greatest test as we line up against the competition leader, and the boys will need to bring their A-game if we are going to prove successful.

Week 3 - Under 12 Girls Game Report

The under 12’s had a hard fought game against Logan.

We jumped to a good lead straight away but got into foul trouble early which Logan took advantage of.

The girls were unable to make baskets when it counted and struggled towards the end of the game under pressure.

The lead changed throughout the game but in the end Logan won 44-35.

Paige Bayliss stood strong and played most of the game with a chipped bone in her wrist (which injured at training during the week)
She worked hard and pulled in quite a few rebounds for the team. Well done Paige.
This loss has seen the team drop from 3rd to 5th.

We will refocus and get ready for Spartans this Saturday at home.

Week 3 - Under 14 Boys Game Report

Logan got out to a strong start taking a 30-7 first quater lead. The boys played with a lot of spirit and never dropped thier heads managing to bring the game to within 11 with only a minute left to play in the game. All of the players gave 100% effort to catch up with outstanding performances from Kelcey who played with alot of hustle getting steals and finding someone for the easy layup at the other end. Jariya who provided the well needed boost in scoring that the boys needed to get the game back on track and once again Leelo who played an outstanding game.

All in all a great game.
