Week 5 - Under 14 Girls (1) Game Report

It was very nive to be back at home last Saturday. It is always a tough clash with our tradional rivals Brisbane. The hot weather seem to take its toll on both teams. It was pleasing to get a good start to the game, however again our finishing off of easy opportunities to score was prevalent. When we address this we are certainly going to be a force to be reckoned with. Terrific hustle from Mel and Maddie kept up the continal pressure on the Brisbane guards, Reggie ruled the boards and Julia attacked the basket with enthusiasm, although it would be nice for her to go around the occasional opponent rather than through them. Not our best effort this season, but it was great to get away with a win, under difficult circumstances. Player of the Week: Reggie

Week 5 - Under 18 (2) Boys Game Report

The U18(2) boys played South West Metro at the Hibiscus Centre. Unfortunately they were too strong on defence and the boys went down. This really was a game of halves with the boys playing an ordinary first half, but coming out strong in the second. The lead that South West got in the first half proved to be insurmountable in the end.
Special mention to Russell Miller.

Week 5 - Under 12 Girls Game Report

This week the girls played Brisbane Capitals at home.
It was so good to see the girls get back to some of their better basketball.
They run the lanes, made some awesome passes and played really good D.

We had a great win 61-22

All players were able to take the court this game and I was pleased to see
Sarah Balmer step up. Ashlyn O'Brien provided some great defence and Hollie
Gray had her eye on her player all the time. I am glad Hollie plays for us
and not the opposition. Boy you wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley.

This week Kayla Beverly went to another level in her basketball. She had a
high score of 17 and just took it to the basket like she owned it. Her
performance on the court earnt her Player of the Week. Keep up the good work
Kayla and remember how great it feels to play like that. She is now hungry
for more.

The team are now back on track and ready for another great win on Saturday
against GC Waves.

The girls are in for a game against the mums this Thursday night at
training. The mums are out to win and win big. I hope the girls bring
their game faces.

Week 5 - Under 16 Girls Game Report

This week the girls faced the daunting task of playing Logan at Logan, but after their “war cry” they were pumped for their challenging match. Inside Logan stadium it was heating up, and it wasn’t only the weather, with both teams neck and neck, neither in front by more than 5 points. Down by 4 in the last quarter, the girls battled back to be down by only 2 points in the last seconds of the game. With their tight and aggressive defence, the girls were able to force an intercept and score during the dying seconds of the match which evened the score. With both teams in foul trouble the girls entered 3 minutes of overtime. Unfortunately due to the burden of their fouls, they lost the game by a close 51-47. Next week the girls hope to improve on their contribution to their team as individuals, their organisation of plays and boxing out to retrieve the rebounds (the rebound stat was less than half for shots put up). Special mention to Phoebe Hinds who scored 22 points, Ruby See for 6 steals, Brianna Coonan for taking the team’s only charge and Kate Missingham for jump balls.
